Is it safe to travel solo as a woman on the south coast?

Amara PereraCanadaNewcomer
I'm planning two weeks around Mirissa, Weligama and Galle on my own. Are there any areas or situations I should be careful about? How about taking buses at night?

Generally very safe and people are friendly. A few tips: - Dress modestly away from the beach - Use PickMe or Uber for tuk-tuks at night so the fare is fixed - Avoid empty beaches after dark - Tourist Police hotline: 1912

Keep a copy of your passport on your phone and share your live location with someone when travelling late. Emergency number is 119.

I travelled solo there last year and felt safe. Buses can get crowded - sit near the front, near other women if possible.
