Is it safe to swim at Mirissa beach in July?

Heading to the south coast in July. I've read the seas can get rough during certain months. Is Mirissa calm enough for swimming then, or should I plan for the east coast instead?

July is actually good season for the south coast — the southwest monsoon is mostly easing by then and Mirissa bay is fairly sheltered, so swimming is usually fine. Still keep an eye on the red flags and avoid the far ends of the bay where the current picks up. It's the whale-watching window too, so book a morning boat.
